The American Plague Fourth Journal Entry

Pg 69-92
Five things I understand
1. Yellow fever had a tendency to come back after the patient had had a shot period of recovery.
2. The two sisters died of the yellow fever. There were people dying of the yellow fever. The people that wee taking care of the sick soon fell sick themselves. The largest funeral held in Memphis in that time was only 15 people.
3. It seem like the yellow fever went down after the cold started coming back. The boat that had originally brought the yellow fever had sunk in the sea taking away with it all the people except two cast ways.
4. Some doctors went to Cuba to learn more about the yellow Fever. They didn’t get much for their visit.
5. Mr. Finlay was a Cuban doctor that studied more the cause of yellow fever. He related it to a mosquito and also that it had to do with temperature and the environment. The people that he read a report to thought that he was crazy fro believing in everything that he about the theories of the mosquitoes.
Four Questions I have
1. Did the president know that so many people in Memphis were dying?
2. How was it that a cure was found?
3. Was there a cure found?
4. Did any other country have the yellow fever epidemic?

Two literally elements
1. “Cold shadows arching across the skyline creating a mosaic of gray light, sun and blue sky” (Crosby 69). This is a metaphor. It is comparing the shadows that are arching with a mosaic of gray light.
2. Forshadonwing: I think that the disease will end up being in Cuba or some other place in the Caribbean. The boat that had brought the disease in the first place had traveled to Caribbean islands.
One summary sentence
1. The author starts speaking about a person and then goes on a transition and speaks about another but it does not follow a general story line.
