Pg 161-184
Five things I understand
1. Lazear ended up getting the yellow fever.
2. They mentioned Lena Warner again. She was the nurse taking care of Lazear.
3. Lazear died at the age of 34. NO one knows if he actually infected himself with the virus or if it was just an accident.
4. Reed and this guy funded a camp called “camp Lazear” were they would further study yellow fever.
5. In the camp, they paid immigrants from Cuba to get sick! They were paid if they caught the yellow fever. Reed was able to prove with his camp that the yellow fever was not acquired by germs but by the mosquitoes.
Four Questions I have
1. How did Lazear die?
2. Were the immigrants well informed about the yellow fever?
3. How did the men survived when they were exposed to poor sanitation room?
4. How did the Surgeon’s General react when proven wrong?
Three Vocabularies

Two literally elements
1. “Rapid-fire action” pg 176. This is a metaphor. It is comparing a movement with fire.
2. “Surely, they even observed with appreciation the folds of mosquito netting placed thoughtfully over their beds” (Crosby 176). This is irony. They were at a camp were they were suppose to be bitten by mosquitoes yet they were being protected from it.
One sentence Summary
1. It has finally been proven that the yellow fever was passed on by mosquitoes and not germs.
