1. Ashima’s grandmother got stroke and her right side is permanently paralyzed. Pg37
2. Ashima Ganguli got pregnant, she’s from India and came to America.
3. Ashoke is her husband; he’s a doctoral candidate in electrical engineering at MIT. Bengali wives don’t call their husbands by their first names.
4. Ashoke was in an accident while on the train, he remembers what he felt as there was a smell of blood and dust in the air. P18. Ashima means “she who is limitless without borders”. Ashoke means “he who transcends grief.” Gave their son the pet name of Gogol, because the letter from the grandmother did not arrive..
5. Ashima’s father died of a heart attack. Decided to move to a University town outside of Boston and then named Gogol, Nikhil.
