pg 31-60
Five things I understand
1.Dicey and her Bothers started to walk along a road and found a house were they could rest. There was nobody living at the house but they decided to leave because they had a place they had to get to.
2.They only have around two dollars left for food and all other expenses that could come up.
3.Dicey bought chicken and potato to cook but then it started raining so they had to wait until the rain stopped. It had been long for them to have eaten good food.
4.Marybeth just thinks that her mom is lost, that the mom did not just leave then because she wanted to.
5.The kids’ father had fights with the mom so he left the house.
6.Dicey met Louis and Eddie who had run away from home.
Four Questions I have
1.Can dicey trust Louis and Eddie?
2.Is James going to be ok since he fell?
3.How long will it take fro the children to get to their aunt’s house?
4.Are the police looking for the children?

Three Vocabularies

1.Tumultuous pg 30: noisy and unrestrained in a way that shows excitement or great happiness
2.Spurts pg 42: a sudden stream of liquid or gas, forced out under pressure
3.Hefted pg 44: to lift up something heavy, especially with a burst of effort

Two Literally Elements
1.“Steam hissed its wax up through to the air” pg46, this is personification since steam can’t really hiss its steam up.
2.“But instead, Sammy smiled, threw up his arms and executed a stiff little jig, joining in their laughter…For just that moment he was again the little boy” pg 36, this shows characterization. Sammy went back to being the way that he used to.
One sentence Summary
1.On this part of the book you get a better sense of the struggles that the kids are starting to face.
