Five things I understand
1. Belle heard that God would return to Earth. She though that that was a wonderful thing.
2. Mathias and Pierson set up a community called the kingdom and Belle was invited to be one of their faithful and she accepted.
3. Belle was accused by a newspaper man of being the person that poisoned one of the leaders of the kingdom. She sued and got money back for it.
4. Belle worked with Mrs. Whiting on Canal Street for nine years.
5. Belle never heard from her son after he left on a boat to work on the sea. He did write letter but never got a reply even though Belle wrote the letters. Belle decided to leave the city that she was living in and head east, she also changed her name.
Four questions I Have
1. What happened to Belle’s son?
2. Why did Belle’s letters not reach her son?
3. Does Belle ever find peace in her town?
4. What made Belle open her eyes to her surroundings?
Three Vocabularies
1. Omnibus pg 103: long motor vehicle for passengers
2. Vale pg 106: valley, often coursed by a stream; a dale
3. Hoarding pg 110: A temporary wooden fence around a building or structure under construction or repair
Two literally elements
1. Round character: Belle used to be really weak in her mind thinking that her master was God and that she was suppose to follow what he always said. As the book goes along, she begins to learn about God and that her master really isn’t a person really powerful. She also becomes a lot braver than what she was before.
2. “God’s voice sounded in my ear as clear as the blast of Gabriel’s trumpet.” Pg 103, this is a simile.
One sentence Summary
1. Belle changed her name to Sojourner Truth, she began to follow God and his teachings.
